How do you remove the steering wheel on a G1000 Vista? Does the cap in the center of the steering wheel come off and expose a nut that holds the steering wheel to the steering column?

Just wondering if this is that clear plastic cap, might say Power Steering if you have? My JS3 had one that was all cracked up, like broken ice or smashed window in car. Carefully pried up the cap, had o-ring. I never could find the correct thin oring for it. Got one close, but it would work it's way out after awhile. When I looked into new one, was $100 for that darn thing. That was 8 yrs ago. Now I saw a lister saying they were worth $400 each!! Give me a break! I never did get my wheel off, couldn't find a puller with arms to get around center, and the bolt holes on mine in center were messed up. I left my puller on finally after fixing holes and lubed and such on shaft, never did come off. I worked on my dash parts still connected to it.

Jeremy - the parts manual shows only the medallion itself and an O ring that goes around it. They apparently just push into the steering wheel and then of course, there is the main nut below that holds the wheel on there.

The I&T manual I have just says "use a suitable puller to pull the steering wheel". Doesn't mention the medallion...

Can you put some sort of suction device on the medallion and see if it looks like it would pull out? If all that holds it is an O-ring, it might be fairly easy to pop out - plus, it wouldn't scratch it...

I here you about the nut on the seat. Also, I know there is a nut holding the steering wheel but how is it accessible is the question. I realize it is likely obvious but I just want confirmation from someone who has removed the steering wheel before as I do not want to pry on the end cap and break it if that is not how it is to come off. I am sure the end caps are not easy to replace. Thanks for your informative response though.
