by accident posted this ? on Oliver site with some response we bought a very roughed up M5 Diesel at auction but it runs like a charm. We grind feed with it. We took it to a local repair shop and dynoed at almost 100 hp at 540 pto rpm. M5 is not on his chart is that the proper rpm ? this tractor runs 1800 + idle rpm. Is this going to taer up the tractor ? Thanks

OK dude I talked to your engine assembly crew...tr96 is right on the RPM , they said that was about 1425 on the engine and they dynoed you at about 87 HP. You are 60 over and about 20 % on fuel. Heads are planed way down and they have worked on your intake ports. The guy was going to pull it before he passed. My G 1000 has basically same set up but at 6 cyl I am turning just under 130 HP, my advice, DO NOT over lug and you should be OK

M5 pto rpms for rated horsepower is 593rpms (pto). If you're pulling down to 540, that's way to far. the 593 comes from actual nebraska tests. M5 diesel was rated at 58.2 pto horsepower at rated pto speed (593).

I know the guy that put that tractor you bought together and I am going to see him next wk. I will ask him what they did to it. I seriously would try to down tune it some. Our 602 was .60 over w sleeves and a planed head and buckets of fuel at 1800 rpm at one time and it was hard on it. We twisted a pto shaft once too. I will post next wk. Meanwhile take er E Z

Most all MM ratings are under load. Roughly no load would be about 1625 to 1650 RPM.

1800 rpm sounds kind of high? In Lester Larsen's "Farm Tractors" 1950-75 published by ASAE the M5 diesel was rated at 58.15 - 50.99 hp @ 1500 rpm and those would have been from Nebraska Test ratings.

I helped a farmer when I was a kid with 602 same 336 engine I am sure. way over powered for the rest of the tractor, he had fuel and RPM's and we twisted the PTO shaft off inside once and outside once on a NH chopper. also could not keep a clutch in it. Great HP but lots of torc rise BE CAREFUL it is an old tractor
