Im looking into building a MM GVI for our 6 mph class. Can anyone tell me what kind of engine-head combonation I should run in it? It sounds to me like I should find 4229 or 4228 heads, but then run a stock block with these heads?

I have always thought the 605 crank and the 4.8 welters piston would be a good solid set up for a g6 in the more stock classes, These guys may correct me if I'm wrong but I think the journal size could be turned down an 1/8 inch to accept the U rod and use the 4210 cyl jug with the 4.8 bore with a set of the welters piston. This would give you over 650 cubes. You may have to do some cutting on the flywheel to make it work, but even a good set of 4210 heads with bigger valves and a good port and polish, along with an impco 200 carb with the 800 intake, turning a resonable 1800 or so rpm on a single regulator would shurley give you well over 150 horse. While this setup will not compete with the 800 cubic inch set ups, it should compete very nicely in a 6 mph class, using a lot of the core parts on a stock g6. as far as the cam goes, everyone will tell you something different, so that may be up to your personal taste, and pocket book. The biggest problem with the g6 is making weight in the lighter classes, You see some of them down in 5500lb, but they are pretty cut up, and and some of them are mix and match rears motors and sheet metal, again how far are you willing to go, I just think the above set up would be a good reliable easy setup for the class you described.

Newbie, What bore, stroke, type of fuel, cam grind, plus a hundred other variables determine the heads that would be best. Find someone in your area that pulls minnies, and pick his brain and that should help you alot. Plus a deeeee p pocket book doesn't hurt either.

Thats my problem, no one around here pulls the Minnies. I want to be different than everyone else here. I just want some ideas on how to build a suitable 6 mph tractor to pull against the stroked Farmall M's, John Deere G's, Oliver 88's. I see where there is a couple of GVIs that pull in division 4 and 5. So I figured there is a way to get 150+ horses out of these machines. What is a good route to go?

If the group that you pull with has an age limit you might not be able to pull with it unless its farm stock.
