stuck motor

i recently purchased a 1942 U B and it has set for atleast 10 years since it last run and now it wont turn over i have took plugs out and put penetrating oil into the cylinders thats been four days ago we try to turn it over pipe wrench and five foot pipe and then tried to pull it with another tractor does anyone have any advice what may be done with out disasbly of motor

Tiny tim -- Don't know where you got your information on your tractor, but you DO NOT have a 1942 UB. You may have a UB built in the 50's, but not in the 40's. It should have a foot clutch if it is a UB and not a hand clutch like the "U's". The engines are the 283 CI series. (same) ID tag for the tractor is on the transmission housing on the right side if you were setting on the tractor. Motor ID tag is on the left front of the engine block. To answer your question on what to break it loose with. I have used diesel fuel and gas mixed. I have used Mystery Oil in the red can. That works pretty good. I have heard of guys using water. They claim that water froze it, water will un-freeze it. I never did have to much luck with it though. I have also taken the rods loose on the bottom and take the heads and blocks off, then pressed them in a press with a 4X4 wood block that has the corners cut off....Good luck and report back so everyone can learn...Deadeye

My self I use transmission fluid to free up engines and so far out of 20 or more engines only 2 haven't broke free. Years ago I had an R that was locked up and I filled the cylinders and walked away from it for about 6 months. It popped free after that. It takes time to free one up since it also took time to lock it up. I also like to over fill the oil pan just to make sure every thing is covered. Oh and by the way NEVER try to pull one or you can/will brake things. I always use a 12 volt battery and the starter and just hit the starter switch with short fast taps and most pop free that way

I recommend that you take it apart. It's not that big a job and if you're lucky and nothing is severely damaged, you can put it back together at the price of a couple head gaskets. I rather expect you'll find rust formed on the cylinder walls and rings that are rust siezed to the pistons. You may get it broke free using some snake oil of some type but it's not real likely that you'll enjoy what you have - if you're successful. It would be better, in my opinion, to open it up and see what you have. Right now you have something that you may be able to salvage, if you run dry rusty pistons up and down a dry rusty cylinder you may destroy it (or significasntly increase your cost to repair it)

I don't know where you are located? I am in northeran Ill. I never take a motor apart to get it unstuck. No mater how bad. Five days isn't very long. It took 10 years to lock up and you want it to be loose in 5 days. I put my favorite penetrating oil in the cyl. and walk away for months, maybe adding penta. every so often. Pulling with another tractor can damage something. The first thing you want to do is take off the rocker covers and check for stuck valves. normaly the exhaust valve that was open when the tractor stoped will be stuck. If you turn the moter over you are going to bend the push rod. I have a prosses that I use to break the pistons loose without taking anything apart. I will un stick any engine for $300.00. But if you are patient you may get the job done, just check the valves first.
