A friend of mine bought a generator, a Katolight with a HD800A-6A motor on it. Its a big unit, 115KVA and now his plans are different so he wants to sell it. He tossed around the idea of seperating the motor and selling that and putting the generator head on a trailer so it can be used with a PTO. I thought he might be making a mistake because the unit is practally new, less than 200 hours on it and thought it may sell better as a unit. My thought was seeing as how it is set up to run on natural gas, it would sell better as a unit. His thought was PTO generators
sell well so that is easy enough to sell and then he could part out the motor if it doesnt sell as a whole unit.

Anybody have an opinion on if its worth the effort to seperate the motor from the generator head? Think it will bring the extra money that way or not worth the extra effort?

Anybody have a guess at what a practally new HD800A would sell for? How about if it was parted out? Any guesses on the Katolight gen head?

Thanks for your time and opinions.

Rich

PS, what tractors would have had the HD800 motor in it? I have had a hard time finding anything about them.

Heard of one about 8 months ago in NC with 160 hours sell for $500. I saw it, but it was sold before I could contact the sole owner, instead of the middleman,-sounded a little fishy. Was told it went to South Carolina.

The engine used in the a4t and 1355 was a differnt bellhousing. You could get the small bell 800 in any of the late MM tractors G1000 G900 G950 Vista 1050 1350 and 1355. My dads dealership put about 8 or them in a4ts and 10 in the two wheel drive tractors mostly vistas but i remember a 900 getting one as well.

MnM44, thanks for the responce, been a bugger getting information on that motor.

The generator is not currently for sale, the owner is just trying to decide what he will do with it and I decided to look online for information. Opinions on the best way to sell this is still appreciated. Clint, mmguy or jetstar, any ideas on what a fair price would be on this?

It is located in WI.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I had one a couple of years ago that had a turbo on it. It was still on the frame with a heat exchanger instead of a radiator. I sold it at a public MM auction for 2650.00. It had about 600 hours on it. I would say between 2500 and 3500 would be a fair price.

Did you sell just the engine on a frame or did it include the generator?

Thanks much, I will be passing this info on to the owner for his consideration.
