How does the transmission oil fill on a Jet Star 3 Work? There is a drain plug directly beneath the shift lever, but when I pour oil in the top fill hole located by the shifter, no fluid comes out. I removed the inspection plate located at the back of the transmission. When I poured fluid in the top filler hole it came out of the back.

Can anyone tell me how to fill the transmission?

You do fill at the plug by the shifter. The check level plug is on the side by the brake pedals. There is also a check level plug for the front compartment but it will only show fluid after the tractor runs a while. I can't remember which side it is on.

All the compartments-Torque Amplifier, gearbox, differential are connected. The front compartment is filled to its proper level by gear oil slung from the gears that is channeled up there.

If you are wanting to change the fluid, there is a drain plug above the drawbar that takes care of the gearbox and the differential and there is a drain plug for the Torque compartement on the clutch side near the step.

The book calls for 90 wt oil. I use 90wt GL-1.

Off the top of my head-I'm thinking with TA about 9 gallons and 7 gallons without TA. That would be 36 quarts/28 quarts wouldn't it?
