Looking to replace the Ensign R LP regulator on my tractor with Impco J. Does anyone know the difference in the colors of the model numbers,(orange, blue and one other). Also no one seems to know what the economizer is and what to replace it with. Does anyone out there have an answer. Thanks Tom Larson

I have an Impco reg # JB400317 model J and Impco carb # CA100m-3 serial 400813 on my M670, works real well, came off a 336 power unit. I was told an Impco will not work with an Ensign either way carb or reg. There is a balance line on the Ensign and not on the Impco, that might be the idle adjustment.

The J has 3 vapor output pressures you can adjust with those springs, blue, orange or red. propanecarbs.com www.impco.ws/

I don't know exactly which one to use for your application but a knowledgable dealer with more info should be able to tell you or instructions with regulator should tell what to set it at for engine cubic inch displacement. Just guessing would say the middle orange spring. On irrigation engines of different sizes and cylinders we kept them all around 6-12 oz. using a special low pressure guage to check output with. Most LP regulators shouldn't put out more than 8-12 ounces. More cubes turn ounces up some. Any regulator that is adjustable can be used just don't go too small on a big engine. That's usually only a problem on large oil field or industrial engines though. Yes go with the Impco carb someone mentioned above to get it to work right without that Ensign equalizer thing. I have some Ensign parts but most are too old to trust and some needed parts are hard to find or non existant now or half the cost of a new regulator when you do find them. We have used Impco for years on natural gas and propane irrigation engines with no problems.

Sounds good but it will not work right. The Ensign system has the idle adjustment in the regulator. The Impco is in the carb. You would be better off to get an Impco carb to match the Inpco regulator.
