Anyone have info on vertical steering shaft for a JT? I'm thinking one from an R is gonna be same. The part numbers are the same, with a few digits diff on my R list. OR, could use part number for early Z, to see it they are same?

OR, can these be welded and Hold? Mine is broken at top, just under the sector gear in case.

G.L. I saw your post on the MM website and I did some checking. My interchange manual shows no indication that the JT steering shaft, sector gear or front axle interchanges to a ZT, even though the part numbers are similar, with the ZT numbers having a 2 prefix added. The number similarity is probably just coincidence.

And comparing the two, you see the JT starting crank has the offset chain box to line up with the crankshaft pulley. Zs use a straight through starting crank So I think the JT shaft is longer and you need to be looking for a JT shaft. Or else have another made.
