I purchased a used set of MM pistons thinking they were M&W 4 3/8 oversize. When cleaning them up, i found part number 10P2955 and STD stamped in the top. Are these MM pistons or M&W? I need to get rings for them so I need to know where to find them. Thanks for any help.

I looked at them again today and there is no AP number so they must be the MM version for the oversize. Would anyone have the part number of the OEM rings? If not, i can measure them up easy enough.

Thanks again

The part number on top confuses me a bit. If you have a M&W piston. It would say M&W inside along with ( AP 122 ) This is a standard bore M&W .125 oversize from an MM piston 4.25. Hastings still makes the Rings, costly around $300. Your piston should have five rings. I might have a set of NOS rings.

Jake,
I can tell you that part number was still good in 1978 and appears to be for a set of 4 pistons at $154.04 (1978 dollars). That part number does not match or come close to any G900/950 diesel pistons either. I think JK2 is probably on the right track with oversize U piston kits. Compare pin diameter and deck height of the piston to a stock U piston. I believe the pin diameter is larger on a D451 G900/950 engine but I'm not positive.
If you measure up the ring grooves and measure the pistons major diameter with a mic to verify their standard bore you should be able to get the rings directly from Hastings. Or you could call someplace like Welter's and tell them what you have and they might be able to help you out.

Thanks for the help. They came out of a LP GVI. I had heard of oversize piston sets from MM's and wondered it thats what it was. They are the same deck heigth and pin diameter of the U.

Thanks again..
Jake

MM sold some 1/8" overbore pistons for several of the engines. I'm pretty sure they were available for the 283. I am certain that they had them for 403's, 605's and 336's because I still have a set of them with MM numbers on them that I bought new years ago. I don't remember if I knew that M&W made them for them or if I just thought that was true. It seems to me that some of them had "AP" numbers as well as MM numbers.

Sounds like maybe a 451 G900 pistons? Those are 4.375.
