Jetstar starter not engaging.

Just put a reground crank in my Jet2. Now the starter is not engaging the ring gear properly. It acts like the drive gear is not slipping in the ring gear teeth like its supposed to. It grinds. Takes two or three tries and then it catches and starts. It never had this problem before in the 2+ years I have had it.

Same starter, same flywheel. Different reground crank with the thrust welded up and machined back true. Surely the crank is not warped back there. Clutch works O.K.

Any thoughts?

Thanks! The Real Kelvin

Take the starter apart & clean the conections inside there = Make sure you have a good ground on the starter it self to the tractor.

Pull the starter off of it and check the starter drive, sounds to me like it could have a weak starter drive. just does not engage like it should and then all of a sudden boom it does, I have a jeep that does the same thing. Good luck
