big mo 500 under hood heat problem

i have a minnie big mo 500 loader backhoe. gas engine. having problems with under hood heat. the right front corner of the fuel tank mounts right to the exhaust manifold. if the hood is on the tractor, it heats up the fuel tank and boils the gasoline on a 90 degree day. also builds up a butt load of pressure inside the tank, pushed fuel right thru the needle and seat on the carb. tractor has a thermostat, runs at 190 when warmed up. is there supposed to be some kind of heat shield between the fuel tank and engine? maybe some type of isolator where it mounts to the manifold?

Another thought: Is the exhaust manifold gasket leaking at the back of the engine?

Is the temperature sender in the front or rear head? I am wondering if the rear of the engine is overheating. If the sender is in the back head it should be accurately telling you what is going on back there.

Another thought is the gas itself. Do you have any idea what percentage is alcohol? I am thinking that the higher the alcohol content the lower the vapor point of the gasoline.

I have a Big Mo 500 book that states the spacers are 11/16" long. Maybe that will help.

Does your 500 have the hood like a 4 star or does it have the wide flat one?

If its like a 4 star:
There is supposed to be two 3/4" to 1" long spacers between the fuel tank flange and the flange on the manifold and head girdle. They are round sleeves that go over the bolts. At least there is on this Jetstar 2 that I am working on now.

I do not know how the fuel tank is supposed to mount on the later 500s with the wide flat hood.

If its pushing fuel through the carburetor, does it run rough or smoke? Why doesn't the vent in the cap take care of the vapor?

it has the wide flat hood. i did replace the fuel cap, that one didnt vent well either. i wound up drilling a 1/16 hole in the cap to releive pressure, but when the tank starts boiling, it cant keep up, so i been running the cap loose. when it starts to push thru the carb it will flood out the motor. i am gonna try some logner spacers in the mounting bolts, maybe make them out of bakelite if i can find some. hers a couple pics of the tractor
