R tractor serial numbers posted correspond to beginning numbers for 1951. ZA tractors were switched to the Knoedler Flote-Ride seat late in the 1950 run. I see a lot of pre-1951 tractors without the original box-shaped seats: switching must have been pretty common years ago, trading originality for comfort.

The Flote-Ride seat was introduced late in the 1950 model year at serial number 00102156 for the RTU, #00400205 for the RTE, 00300094 for the RTN, and #00200301 for the RTS. Hope this helps.

I can only say that my '48 RTU doesn't have the flote ride seat and my unrestored '49 RTU has one.

If you are changing to the flote ride, you will probably need the raised steering shaft bracket too.

I think the last year for the R was 1953. It may have been 1952.
