Bolt in transmission cover

On my 46 ZTN, directly behind the gear shift lever is an L shaped bolt threaded into the transmission cover and extending into the transmission case. The bolt has a screw driver slot and a nut on the top for adjusting and setting. It does not appear in my parts manual or my shop manual. What is it for? It must adjust for something?

Is it in-line with the 5th gear selection? It could be a lock out for road gear if the tractor is equiped with steel wheels. Just guessing at this point.

Joe

My 46 Z never had steel wheels. Well, I guess I should never say never. Who knows for sure 61 years ago. I doubt many tractors were made after the War with steel wheels. However, your idea is the best suggestion I have heard so far. The L bolt is just to the side of the bracket that seperates the sifter shafts, so not sure how it could keep it from going into 5th gear. I will check it out.

That sounds right what Joe said on the 5th gear lock out. They did have that on the tractor I believe whether you had steel wheels or not.
