UTS to Restore

Well I got the MM UTS home yesterday and tore into it this morning after unloading. The Serial Number is 324350S. My MM Farm Tractors manual shows this as a 1945 model. I am not sure what the S stands for but the head has H-C cast on the right side. I wonder it this means it is a high compression head? The engine is the KFE.

The tractor was a one-owner tractor in Idaho Falls, ID. The owner died 8 years ago and his wife told his son to �get this tractor out of here.� He towed it out onto a hill overlooking the ranch and it has been setting there since. The son was upset as I was loading it and feeling very nostalgic, as he worked it when he was a youngster. Now, I am wondering why he didn�t keep it inside and take care of it? He had tons of money from ranching and subdividing the ranch into small ranchos.

The exhaust was uncovered and as you can guess, the engine is stuck. There was antifreeze in the block so I do not think the block is damaged. Although, I found antifreeze in #1 and #4 cylinders when I took the spark plugs out. Could this mean I have a broken head due to the water entering through the exhaust, or could this mean a leaking head gasket?

The exhaust manifold has a crack near the top also. Are these manifolds available as aftermarket or from a salvage yard?

I plan to fully restore this tractor if things go well.

The tag does say UTS. The son of the original owner told me it was a UT when he first advertised. I found the UTS on the tag myself. It is very possible that the front end could have been changed out, many years ago, as the son is in his 60's now and remembers the front wheels catching in the furrows and spinning the steering wheel and busting his knuckles! This is indicitive of a narrow front end.

Would Welters have access to new manifolds? I do not want exhaust problems with the restored tractor.
