I just looked at a Moline UTS that the serial number says it is a '49 model. the fellow that has it said to make an offer, don't know what shape the engine is in but appears to be all there with PTO and Hyd. How much HP is it, weight, pitfalls to look for, etc...what is it worth? as usual needs tires. How common? Thanks...

I just picked up an It-Ran-8-Years-Ago 1945 UTS in Idaho. It needs tires, all the parts are there. It has the KFE engine, not like the one you are looking at. He was asking $1000 and took $400.

MM UTS is a good solid tractor - 49 would 283A4 engine with split block and heads 2+2. Lots of options on CR by varying heads LP vs gas, vs distillate and varying altitudes - probably GE30E heads at about 5.5:1 as it came from MM. Probably about 40 HP drawbar - maybe a bit more but they were conservatively rated. With right heads and governor it would probably be 50 HP. Probably about 6000 pounds unballasted. Lots of them out there. Weak spot is $350 exhaust manifold that cracks and hot spot where right side skirt rusts / burns out where it touches manifold. I"ve seen them go from $1200 to $2700 in in running condition with fair to good sheetmetal and tires - of note the $1200 one had better sheetmetal and much better tires than the one at $2700. Just a matter of time and place - I own the $1200 one but could not believe bidders on several that went $2000 or better with shot tires, busted manifolds, etc.
