would someone be able to tell me the year and model of this tractor the serial number is 04804995 model number on tag is D283-4 minneapolis-moline it was listed as a 1959 not sure if that is correct are they a common tractor

That looks like an engine serial number. There should be another tag on the side of the transmission with the model and serial number. The list I found indicated that 1953 engines were 04800023 thru 04800052 and that was as new as it listed. It is probably a UT or UB diesel, main diff. is UB have a platform and foot clutch.

Value is what you paid for it - but if its a UTSD, its probably one of the more valuable versions except for a UDLX or maybe a UTC cane version. Other factors influencing value are obviously condition, running, complete, tires, etc. Out of curiosity, where was auction and what did you have to give for it.

No one seems to want to answer question as to value - and I understand why - I would guess - and this is based more on other MM of that vintage - that $2000-4000 US would be a good deal - if recognized as one of latest UTSD it might be a bit higher - maybe up to 5000-10,000 depending on condition and who and / or how many want it - I"ve seen some recent auctions go crazy on other MMs.

Myles,
You've got a 1958 UTSD-M. This tractor was originally intended for shipment to Turkey as a "knock down". Which means it was shipped partially assembled with final assembly to be done in Turkey. Several of these tractors never made it to Turkey for unknown reasons and were sold locally. There were 1699 made from 1954 to 1958. Serial # 10800550 was the last serial number listed in most reference books. So yours is near the end of the production run.
