oil seal for jetstar

Some guys double up the seal if its less than 1/2 the thickness of the original. I guess this would work if the outer seal has some grease on the lip. I have never done it myself.

Also, there is an oil drain hole in that plate the seal goes in, it should be open and go downward to drain any ooze through the seal away from the brake disks. (The plate may only go on one way, with the hole down, I don't know.) I have even seen Jetstars with drain holes drilled into the brake housing from the bottom so the oil can drain on out of the case. I did that on one particularly messy brake housing.

Another thing: you need to wrap something around the splines on the shaft to protect the seal when you slide it back up over the splines, so you won't cut the new seal. Other guys do other things,but I haven't had problems using the flat side cut out of a 2 liter plastic bottle wrapped around the shaft.

I got a pair of seals from our local CarQuest auto parts. They are National 417344
Box flap lists dimensions as: 2.875 x 3.751 x .375
