Hi, My father recently has passed on after 65 years of farming here in Wisconsin. We have since found some treasures: namely old pictures. I have a picture of him on an unknown tractor. It is MM (minn moline) but that is all we know. The photo is b&w (what color was it?) and no one remembers the tractor and it has long since gone to the bone yard. ANY information would be helpful. This picture was taken around mid to late 50's here in Wisconsin. Thats about all we known but am very curious about the tractor.

That is a 5 Star diesel. Started farming with one. Did just about everything with it, plow, disc, plant, cultivate, mow hay and etc. Even had a Rock and Roll mounted picker for it. The main tractor was painted praire gold,(my kids called it school bus yellow) the back center wheels and the front wheels were painted bright red, and the back rims were silver. Good tractor. What part of Wis was your farm in? Very nice pictures.

Hi Herald,

Our farm was located in what is now Howard, with land all over the area that we farmed. Those pictures are just a treasure ... while it makes me feel kind of old its bittersweet. Thanks for the information and I am glad you and so many others enjoyed the picutes )

I looked last night and there was NO correct examples in tractors photos! Wrong yellow and white wheels were NOT correct! Do your homework sonny. Look at paint codes at:

Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed the picture it makes sharing them even better! I have no idea where that tractor is. Based on past history of how the farm operated a good bet would be that they ran it to the ground and then bought another one. No one in the family remembers much about that tractor - we think my father and uncle purchased it together.

I sure wish I could see it now....

Lisa, I feel I know 5 stars quite well. There was three major changes in the the main decal on the side panels of the tractor. 1957 was a long arrow like decal with five stars in a row. 1958 like what you have here is the one used for that year of tractor along with fives stars in a circle pattern up by the head lights. 1959 was the last real year for the five star with the decal still having the circle of five stars by the headlights and the words minneapolis moline on the side. The words would be minneapolis " small letters" on top of Moline in big letters. However though there are carry over years to this decal thing as well to be more to the point it really could be a very late 1957. Because not only of this but on the diesel decal as well. That decal was red, yellow and black. Later on in 1958 and so MM switched to just an all black diesel decal as well. Very very sharp pictures!

Floyd, I would agree you know your 5star. The information you gave has still not proccessed in my noggin' :) I would give my eye teeth to have a color version of this tractor - as far as the coloring and namely the decal. It is amazing you can tell so much from a mere decal. Glad you and others have enjoyed the pictures - it makes sharing so enjoyable. It sure gives a little look in to that era! Not to mention missing those times...more now then ever.

Thank you for your help. My hope is that someone can find a photo of a restored one that is in the correct colors - silly I know but it is important to us.

Wow that is a very precious picture. I have some of my dad and I on the farm when I was little....they are always treasures. Yes it is a 5 Star diesel from the looks of it as was stated. The 5 Star seats were mounted up higher than the 445s were. Thank you for posting the picture. It gives a person insight on what original tractors looked like new.

The tractor is a 5 STAR Diesel. The tractor was built between 57/59. It was one of 1295 built.The color was Prairie Gold. The wheels were red.

P.S. Sure wish I could find a hat like that here in NC. I had one when I was a child, I guess Wal Mart's computer says that yuppies don't wear them here in NC.

TRK, now that is funny! Go figure if the yuppied don't want it we can't get it. If I ever see one online I will post it here, just for kicks I looked at Vermont Country Store and Plow and Hearth.. both no goes. But it was a cool hat - I still remember Mom yipping at him to take it off at the table many years after this photo was taken.

I am not sure on this tractor,but it may be a MM 445 diesel.These tractors were built in 1958 and 59 I think,but not sure.Hope this helps and maybe someone else can post more info. Phil

Based on the shape of the oil pan I say it is a 5star.
