4 star clutch question

My clutch is giving me fits and I don't have time to fix it right now. We had to sell off some equipment last winter and this is my only tractor till we buy a new one in the spring. Anyway, When I push the clutch it growls and grabs like crazy and wants to take off on me if I'm not quick. Hooking to implements is a real pain! If I didn't have to get my wheat field planted by the end of the month I'd split it right now and fix it but what do you all think it is? The only experience I have with a Minnie is on this one. I have tons of experience on Case, international and Kubota though. I was a mechanic on them. Does it sound like a pilot bushing or the throw out? I'm guessing this clutch isn't adjustable since I don't see any access holes to it. It pulls fine and doesn't slip at all, just is really hard to get released with all the growling. I've been putting the RPM down as low as it goes and it helps a little but not much. I also don't see a grease fitting anywhere for the pilot. It sure will have one after I split it. I've drilled lots of flywheels for a grease fitting before. I have regularly greased the throwout on it. Thanks.

You probably have more experience with clutches than I have, but basically it is not releasing.

If it is growling only when you push the pedal, probably either the release fingers or the release bearing (Or both if you run it that way much.)
Have you tried shortening the link from the clutch pedal?

The only other thing I can think of is a galled bearing that is sticking the pto shaft to the clutch shaft since the pto shaft runs through the center of the clutch shaft.

Also I don't know if you can drill through and get grease to the pilot bushing or not. Its in the same aluminum casting that has the splines for the pto shaft, if I am not mistaken.

It sounds to me you better take the time to fix it now before someone gets hurt or worst. It doesn't take long to split a 4-star and put it back together especailly in compared to a hospital stay. Besides that you are not going to do anything to fix it from outside of the tractor any way.
