Switching form Ensign to Impco

Have a 602 propane with an ensign R regulator. Want to switch it to an Impco. On ebay they have an Impco model J for $76, would this work for this tractor, if not which one do I need. Also do I have to change the carb, if so which one would I need? Thanks Alot

I just put a model J on my M670, used an Impco carb # CA100m-3, works like a charm. Don't have any idea what the #s mean, got this one off a 336 power unit on Ebay. Like to get another for my GTB.

I have a 1964 jet star 3. It has a ensign reg. I just bought a rebuild kit for it but know nothing about rebuilding it. Do you know if i can get one of these Impco reg. for mine?

Hello
I would think a Model J would work fine, but most everybody would tell you to use a model E.
I got a J on a U with big pistons in it and it works just fine, the only think is it has to get warmed up before it will run on straight liquid under a load, but i always start it on vapor then switch to liquid after it runs for a few minutes.
I would think you might be able to find a used E for about the same money.
I did just rebuild me J and the kit was like $80 and i got a kit for the E and it was about the same money. If buying used and it has laid around any time at all dont be suprised if it needs rebuild.

any vaporizer that i ahve seen is used with engine coolant flowing though it. thats why i have to let the tractor warm up before it will run on straight liquid.
The difference in the J and the E is the amount it will flow, the E is plenty big for a 602,which is why when its cold it will change enough liquid to vapor to run a 336 engine with out any problem.
