I purchased an R at auction and it has no SN tag on the housing, the engine sn is 175000679 can I find out anything from that ? sure would atleast like to know how old my GIRLFRIEND is ! any help would be appreceated and Thanks in advance

You appear to be missing a leading 0 - but you seem to have an early 1950 EE engine - 017 is EE motor for R tractor - From 1948 to 1950, the 4th and 5th digit are the last 2 digits of year - so 01750 is 1950. Motor sequence is 00679 out of 02875 made in 1950. Not a guarantee that engine went with tractor as there was at least 1 RTU at that auction that was earlier vintage than its 1948 motor - but I looked at your tractor and didn"t note anything that implied engine did not go with tractor. Thanks Ed my dad seems to agree with you that there is nothing that would indicate the engine and tractor were not mates from the beginning. We are finding out of a few more tractors that had SN tags stolen. It is so sad that people who collect are that rude.The info you shared is very helpful and educational

Not sure about stolen - but maybe - I"ve heard of farmers around here that pulled tag and put in glove box of pickup in case they needed parts - also there were some up there that were rusted out so bad they might have just as well been missing - I would probably pull it myself if it was half gone, illegible, and hanging off like a couple I saw. Still a shame. As for correct tractor, I think 50 had newer style hood and there were several brake changes in the 47-50 time frame - so if you have to get into it deep, you would know more. best Ed

That serial # shows up as a Jetstar Diesel, number too high for any year mfgd. Maybe crossed some #s.
