TRK, you said your M220 rod journals were bigger than normal 206/220 engines? Mushy, you say they are smaller? What is the actual size on them? Is there a spec? If it is bigger, it could be very useful to my project!

I just checked my notes hanging here by the computer: Kevin is right, The dimension I was thinking about was the bores in the rods for the bearings, which is larger than the 2.625 dimension of the crankpins on a regular 206-220 crank. The bore in the rod was 2.651-2.653 depending on the rod (I messed up #3 and it would have had to been re-sized.)

The actual crankpin dia. was 2.492 (#3)-2.493 (#1,#2). (Although I don't know now why I didn't record dimensions for #4 rod and journal.

My idea was to find an insert that was the correct width and O.D. (Or the rod could be machined out to fit the O.D.) and then hopefully the crank could be turned to fit one of the undersizes.

What stumped me was the main thrust bearing. No other main thrust bearing that is about the right size in I.D. and O.D. comes close to the width of the original MM bearing.

The mains were 2.870 I.D. (Miked on my crank, which may have been worn.) and the bore in the crankcase was 3.067.

Sorry to mislead you.

No problem. Thanks for the numbers. That's what I needed. I have an HD220 and an M220. Looks like the HD is a better canidate for an offset grind.

yes, and an educated guess at that! hey you get those 335 parts yet? guess a 335 universal and utility had the same ring/pinion damn it. but i do have a jet 2 tranny coming this fall. those gears ought to do the trick...maybe

Hey mopower I am building one the same size and just using the stock 445 rods with a lot of clearance work. Have you find a 4" piston with the corect dimensions? I think I will have a set made.

Can it be bored to 4"? I was looking to build something with no block work or crank welding. I just found my Federal Mogul book. I'll dosome checking because 4" means 350 Chevy and lots more I think.

I can't remember the so the the size off hand I have a mic but it is loaned out and hasn't made it back yet. I do know a regular 206 crank had to be turn beyond .30 to even come close to the size journals that are on my military crank. I know that is what they done at MM too was to take regular 206 cranks and grind them way down and that is the reason for the grinding of the last four digits on the military crank and stamping the new number in place of the old. I will see if I can get it measured again and send you an email on it.

Didn't I measure your bearings back at the Kalamazoo PGR show?

I don't know the answer to your question, But true military specs mean that a engine of a certain power or size range carried bearing"A" then the next size engine bearing"B". I would guess that they had a 2.500 rod journal at military specs, just a guess!

Thanks. Just considering an offset grind to a 2.0625 crankpin. This would give me 5.5625 stroke with maybe a 3.875" or 4" bore. I have all the parts with the exception of a couple more Deere H rods needed. 4 bore x 5.5625 stroke is 280 cubes. Enough to be fun.
