Any hints on removing the starter from an MM UB? I have removed the single bolt with a cone nose from the transmission housing. What else is holding the starter in place and how do I get it out of the transmission housing?

OK,rebuilder couldn't rebuild it. He said the field coils inside the barrel were burned out and he didn't have another one. However, I'm lucky enough to have an M&M collector in my small W. Texas town who has a couple of old starters in his shop. Does anyone know what the resistance across the field coils should be for a 12 volt UB starter?

Thanks,
Tim

After removing the single bolt, place a pry bar between the bell housing and the starter and gently start prying against the starter, using a rocking motion. If there continues to be quite a bit of resistence you can use penetrating spray to help it along.

Thanks, it came right out. Now it's at the shop for a rebuild.
