A fellow I work with says he has a 2 cylinder MM. Until today, after I did a Google search, I thought JD was the only older tractor to be offered in a 2 cylider version, but I found reference to an MM 2 cylinder diesel. Also found a site with the Keller MM collection and one photo shows what looks to be a 2 cylinder gas (had a distributor with 2 wires out and a head with 2 plugs). What models and what year MMs were 2 cylinder?

Thanks,
JGarner

Iseki also made a two cylinder and just as cheaply made as the Crapbota.

The YT is one of my favorite MM tractors. We are lucky to have one in our collection and some spare engine parts to boot. I know it has been written in different places that the YT engine (model YE)is 1/2 an and R engine (model EE), this is a MM myth. The YT engine has the same bore and stroke (3-5/8 x 4-1/2) as the early ZT engine (model RE). The YT engine has very little in common with the R engine. A YT will not even bolt to a R transmission.

I know it has been written in several different places that the YT is 1/2 an R. In reality, the R came out after the YT was discontinued and the two were never intended to be built at the sametime. The statement that the YT is basically 1/2 the original ZT engine is a more accurate description. The YT and R transmission share some similarities but are truely different designs.

I'll jump down from my soap box now and go back to work.

Couple more questions since you gave me very good info.
1.) What years were the YTs made?
2.) How many were made, is it rare; ie, how many do you think are left and how hard are parts to get??

The YTs were made in 1937 and 1938. A total of 25 were built and I know of 8 that exist today.

The engine cylinder block, valves, pistons and rods are the same as the ZT engine. The cylinder block is also the same later Z engines and Rs. Those parts are relatively easy to find. The main bearings for the YT are one piece babbit sleeve type bearings. I have not found any thing available today that could be used to replace the main bearings. When I rebuild the engine I have, I will likely need to get my bearings repoured.

The rest of the tractor has very little in common with any other MM tractors. Parts for the rearend and tranny are going to be a challenge. It is possible that there are parts inside the drive system to are the same as the MM R but I can not say for certain.

E-mail me direct and I can send you the spec sheet I mentioned earlier and I can share with you the pictures I have of our YT and the engine components.
