I am looking for a good cylinder head for a 1949 model U with the 283 A motor. The tractor is set up for gas.... if that makes a difference? My head is leaking water out of the exhaust ports... two small pinholes. Is this a common problem. Perhaps this is why the tractor was parked in 1993.

Jon, I think you need to know the casting number in order to match the other head. I am thinking it is between the spark plugs and will start with GE or 10A.

I had a GE30E that cracked in the exhaust port. I don't know if it was common or not. Have 2 283s that are not cracked.

Also: There is a 10A cylinder head replacement for most of the GE cylinder heads. It will probably have 18mm plug threads where the GE head probably used a plug with 7/8" threads.
