My son keeps asking me and I cannot answer him, what is the difference between a UB and a UB Special ? Thanks

We've been through this before on this site and I have no way of proving my position but I'm sticking with it. The UB Special LP was built through 1957. I was an MM dealer at the time and the UB Special LP was my best selling model so I'm sticking with my story. These lists are all we have to go by but they can be wrong.

UB Specials had full flat fenders, UB had clam shell fenders. Special looks like a slightly scaled down GB.

You're confusing a UB Special with a UTS Special. UTS specials had the large wrap over fenders and radiator similar to a GB. UB Specials were row crop only machines with the same fenders as the regular UB, same radiator as UTS Special and interchangable front axles on a common front steering casting with power steering optional. The UB Special had a different ring and pinion and differential than the UT and early UB. It was changed mid way through UB production. The UB Special gas/LP was made in 1955 only. The UB Special diesel was made from 1955 to 1957. The UTS Special was made in 1956 and 1957.

Most UBSPECIALS have factory equiped power steering,quick change steering pedestal(front wheels),a different crankcase with built in oil filter,radiator with cast iron top and bottom tanks.removeable side curtains.Think thats about it....

The styling is different, the grill and side pannels are different. The front end was interchangable. One option was power steering.I can't tell you if the specials had more horsepower, they might have increased the RPMs a bit.
