I have a question for any of the serious MM collectors. I have located a tractor with the letter A as the last digit in the serial number. The serial number has the correct digits to show tractor type and year, but has the letter A following. Does anyone have any idea what it means?

Yes, it is a GTA. It appears to be a factory LP tractor. Could this letter A designate it was an LP factory tractor? I have looked this tractor over extensively, and I am sure the LP is factory installed. Thanks, Ron

Ron,
Generally the GTA model had an "A" at the end of the serial # to differentiate it from the earlier GT model it replaced. My 1947 GTA gas has the "A" at the end of the serial number also. This was a common practice for Moline in the 1940's. I have several R models with a letter at the end of the serial number indicating what type of front axle was factory equipped. I've also seen this on U model tractors.

I think I have seen the suffix A - just can"t remember where. I have seen other suffixes added to MM S/N - but typically related to model. Is it a GTA tractor? Have seen letters - particularly R added to s/n of other brands indicating a replacement of major component such as trans/rearend.

It has the correct number of digits to identify the tractor type and year. There is no mistaking the A which follows the number. I will complete the purchase today, and will post the complete number tomorrow. I have been collecting for about 25 years, and have looked at lots of serial numbers. I have not seen aything like this. Thanks, Ron

I have not seen any MM tractors with a letter at the end of a serial number t could be a 4 if you could put the entire number on maybe we could help identify it
