On a 95 Massey Ferguson, can a ring/gear and penion be changed to a lower ration than what it came with original. This tractor is used for pulling at 4mph and it is to fast for the pull, or may the transmission be geared lower.

About 10 years ago a fellow came to our local pull[in Canada] with a MMGBD or I think it was the newer GV1 he did really well and told one of our guys he had changed the 1st gear, and had gotten the parts in the U.S. I wish I had paid more attention ,as we have the same problem with a 95 in the stock class , 1st is just to fast ,[a couple of JD 80 and 820`s giving us grief] hopfully someone knows where you could get these gears. thanks

If a Massey 95 is the same as a GBD then 1st gear with 1430 rpms (stock) is about 2.7 mph
if you get the new rpms (1650) then you are just over 3 mph. So say you get the newwer rpms 1650 plus 20% over give you 1980 rpm. that in fisrt gear is close to almost 4 mph. Unless you have lots of cubes and done a lot of work in side that 425 diesel you dont have enough motor for 2nd gear in anything over 6500 lbs. but if your running one of those (factory Farm Motors) aka "800" then you got plenty for 3 rd gear and just idle back. But for anybody to help you more you need to tell us more info
just my thought

You need to identify what you want? Low gear is slower than 4 m.p.h. Do you want splitter gears, faster slower? Most of the common gears that pullers are using are splitting 4th. and 5th. with many different ratios. Any ratio can be made. What classes are you running? Unless you are pulling at 10000# plus low gear should be enough, if not you have other problems, i.e. WORE OUT.

The Massey 95 is the same tractor as the MM GVI. The only change is the in the grill. I write is for the benefit of the person who posted saying to look on the Massey board for help.

I do not believe you have any options for changing the ratio without tons of machine work. There was only one bevel ratio offered in the MM GVI/MF 95. If you are running tall rubber, you might need to go to a smaller rim size tires to slow your tractor down and get your rpms up.

I hate it when I need to correct myself. The Massey 95 is the same as the MM GBD. The Massey 95 Super is the same as the GVI.

I don't think there were different ring gears offered for the 95. I do think I read that some guys were actually installing different ratio custom made gear sets in the transmission, though. If you do this, think it through-some of those gears are used in more than one gear position.
