piston diameter for U

Had a valve drop through a piston on my U. The diameter of the piston measure's 4.365" stamped with "std" on top of the piston. Can anyone tell me what kind of piston I have and where I can get a replacement for the one I have? The piston is aluminum.

You can put the 4.625 bore blocks on pretty reasonably probally cheaper than buying new pistons for the small bore you have now.

4.625 bore blocks are typically 403 blocks that require 6 inch stroke verses the 5 inch stroke in the U. In a U with a 4.625 bore a G crank and some machine work to fit it in a U would be tequired also.

Boy I don't know if you could go 4 5/8 with original blocks. I still use this tractor to pull a three bottom plow.

You cant go 4.625 in the original blocks. What i said was you can get a set of 4.625 blocks and pistons used about as cheap as buying a new set of pistons and rings.

That would give the old girl "some get up and go".
What would be involved in doing this. Would everything from an M5 bolt right up? What do you think the cost would be? I have checked with Welters on a new piston, haven't heard back from them yet but they thought they had one. just had to locate it. How about sleeves?

A good used set of blocks and pistons for an M5 run about 350.00. A new set of ring will cost about 100.00. You can bolt the blocks right on the pistons are a little too tall. You can either run a couple extra block gaskets or turn about .160 off the top of the pistons. The 403 blocks have nothing to do with what we are talking about. All the M5 602 670 G1000 vistal 1350 1355 and A4t lps or gas all used the 4.625 bore blocks unless they had the Hd800 in them of course

YEARS ago when we farmed with UT,s I had one bored 125 thousands oversize( second boreing) and used pistons supplied by machine shop and did not have cylinder problems,but you never can tell.Dont know piston brand....

Sounds like you have an M&W overbore piston. Std bore on a U is 4.25 and the M&W company made an 1/8 inch overbore piston and marked them Std. I would try welters in MO 417 498 6496

You're right it is an M&W piston. A1 122 made by M&W. Are they still in business? and what is the story behind M&W products? I don't know if you could bore any larger diameter and be safe. I guess I have too many questions and not enough answers.

Welters sell Jahns pistons that are 4.375 +.060" over for the U engine.
