Been helping get a bunch of tractors ready for an estate auction and those old MM tractors are a whole lot easier to get runing than those *!!! JD tractors. I think every JD over there had a carb filling the crankcase. About 30 tractors in one building took 27 sets of points,10 carb cleanings but by golly they are going to run I think. Cranked on big old MM diesel probably hadn't run in 10 years new battery and shot of eather and you couldn't see the front door for a week but it ran. Worked a deal on batteries and boy have we used a load of them.

I've worked on both Deere and Moline. Since I have about 16 yellow machines, you know which one I prefer. The Deere will bring far more money, but the MM are easiest to work on especially after sitting for years. I bought a GVI diesel a couple years back. They dragged it out of the barn after about 9 years. After popping the clutch....vroom!!! I'm sure the old diesel fuel was far from fresh. When you compare Deere to MM, you do so at your own risk. Deere built a good machine, but some of us other colors know that they were not the most powerful, best engineered machines they are sometimes made out to be. A MM U will run circles around a Deere A or G even though Deere folks say that the G was the competitor to the U. I would run any Jet star against a 1010 oe 2010. Even the old 335 would run circles around them. I would also run any M670 against a 3020. Don't even compare the 4020 and G1000/G900. (I know Deere guys don't consider that even a fair comparison.) I love the 4020! The new generation had nice hydraulics. Diesel deeres ran well but much less torque. The gas engines were weak and wore out quickly. MM's G1000 had initial tranny problems. The 335/445 hydraulics left room for improvement. Everyone had their strengths and weaknesses, but dollar for dollar and considering years of abuse, I consider Moline the toughest, even if they were not the most dominant company.

p.s. You IH guys can back me up. Super M/400/450 versus a Deere A/60? Super H/300/350 versus a Deere B/50? Yeah, exactly.

I don"t have near as much experience with the JD tractors, but I must agree that MM tractors are exceptional. My "57 445 has been very reliable, low maintenance, and can pull like crazy.

The Green tractors get most the attention, but the old timers around here have nothing but positive comments about MM tractors.

Looks like I cannot even plant corn one day without you guys fighting over who is best ! Yep sodbanger you are right just let em go, our secret. We too have found the MM one of the easier to get going. Between you fancy farm and us we are probably making the battery world scratch their heads. We have bought about 400 so far no wonder you cannot find a 6 volt anywhere.
