I was just doing some thinking this weekend and I was wondering. Does Agco own the rights to the Minneapolis Moline logo, the Twin City, Minneapolis Threshing Machine Co., logo, Oliver, Cockshutt, Massey etc? They all fall under the Agco name today.

Are there limitations to these sorts of things?Do you think I would be breaking the law if I used an old logo?

It would be a good idea to do a trademark search before undertaking this endeavour. You can do ths at www.uspto.gov

This is the U.S. patent and trademark office.

Seems to me Agco still has rights to the MM name but TC and some of the older ones may be dead.

Yes you will probably be violating name rights if you use the logos.

I do not know the specifics, but AGCO is a billion dollar corporation. They have lots of good lawyers. You can bet they covered all the bases when they acquired the rights.

You might research the use of logos. I would say if you make a T-shirt for personal use, you would probably be OK. If you try to sell one you would probably violate copyright law.
