I AM ASKING YOU MM GUYS TO PERHAPS FIND ME A STARTING POINT. I AM LOOKING FOR A WAUKESHA ENGINE THAT WAS USED IN A GRAY TRACTOR.

I DON'T KNOW MUCH ELSE AT THIS POINT LIKE H.P. MODEL OR PARTICULARS.

ANY INFO OR DIRECTION WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED

THE TRACTOR IS A 1917 GRAY. AN OUTGROUTH OF THE KNAPP FARM LOCOMOTIVE

THE ENGINE WE'RE LOOKING FOR IS A:
471 cubic inch (7830 CC) WAUKESHA 4 CYL 18/36

Are you referring to the Gray Drum Drive? That had a cross mounted Waukesha engine just in front of the drum. There are pictures out on the internet of this tractor. Sorry I do not know any of the particulars on the Drum Drive but I do know they were made around 1917.

YES! ACTUALLY IT IS A 1920 GRAY (WHICH WAS A DRUM TYPE TRACTOR. THE ENGINE HOWEVER, IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN USED ON OTHER TYPES OF EQUIPMENT.

THE ENGINE IS AS I DESCRIVED ABOVE

I'M STILL TRYING TO FIND JOHN TYSSE AND JIM ERDLE ANYONE HAVE A NUMBER OR SOMETHING I'M DRAWING A BLANK ON THE INTERNET.

It appears that a Gray Drum Drive was tested at the Nebraska Test Lab in 1920. It was run as test number 22. You might learn something about the engine if you get your hands on a coply of that test report.
