I"ve just acquired an R that is in a basket. The blocks, pistons, and rods are long gone. I think I read a thread that the difference between an R and Z was the crankshaft. The blocks, pistons and rods were interchangeable. Is this correct? Thanks

Ill John has it right. Cylinder blocks, heads and manifolds will interchange between the 165cid EE, 186cid RE, and the 206cid 206B-4. Crankcase, crankshaft, rods and pistons will not interchange.

Lets start ALL over. The R engine, "EE" has a 4" stroke, the Z engine, "RE" has a 4 1/2" stroke, the ZA, ZB engine, "206" has a 5" stroke, the EE has ball bearing at the front, the RE has a ball bearing at the front and back, the 206 has a ball bearing in front and is a 3 main bearing engine, the other 2 are 2 main bearing engines. They all use the same blocks, all use different rods and pistons and cranks and crankcases. RE101A and 10A1462 blocks are all the same and interchange, the difference in the castings is minimal. They all use the same bolt pattern on the front and rear of the crankcase as the newer 206 overhead valve engines in the 335, 445, 4 Star and so on. There are 7 different heads for the flathead engines, each affecting the compression on each of the 3 types differently. Don't know what else I can add, but if there's a question, ask. Thanks, John

The blocks and pistons are the same from a Z and an R but the bottom half of the motor is completely different. An R has no center main and is a 4 inch stroke. A Z has a center main and is a 5 inch stroke. I have an almost complete R motor that I would be interested in selling. It has good blocks and a good crank. It was running before I put a different motor in my R.
