I have a tractor that says model UTIL s/n 0144900321 on one tag. On another tag it has model 4 1/4 X 5283A4 S/N 0194903727. Also has a loader that says Reese Enginering Co. Mod C-100 load limit 6,000 LBS. The only MMs that i can find listed that seem close to mine are model 335 or 445 utilitys but mine seems to have to many numbers in the s/n.This is a big tractor with no power steering. Also no draw bar or power take off.It is a 4cyl. gas Any help apreciated.

According to my book, it is a 1949. They were produced from 1946-1957. In 1949 the serial numbers started with 014490001 and ended with 0144900340. The prefix 014 indicates Type283A-4 engine. Hope this helps.

I just went through my manual on MM tractors, and the other plate that says 4 1/4 x 5283A4 is the engine tag, it is a four cylinder with a 4 1/4" bore 283 ci and the s/n that follows id the s/n for the engine, I think that yours is newer than a 1950 but the letter code is as follows, U- next biggest tractor in the series, second biggest rated at 40 hp
T- stands for tractor
I- stands for industrial, heavier built standard version
and the fourth letter stands another option such as It might be that it has a lighter on it or possibly live hydraulics
I'm not sure on the year my one manual goes from 1940-1955 and there is a reference in the other manual listing it as a 1939 model but that manual only goes up to 1950, so your guess is as good as mine on the year of it.

Dalejn7,

Well, if it says model UTIL and has a serial number following that, why would you think it is anything but a UTIL? The serial number is consistent with one manufactured in the 1949 model year, being #321 of 340 made. The engine is also consistent with 1949 manufacture and is the correct 283 engine. This tractor is the industial model of the U and the L indicates it has the shuttle shift, meaning you will have the normal foot clutch of an industrial U (UTI) and a hand lever for the shuttle in the normal location of a U hand clutch. Having a loader on a UTIL is very common, some people say the L stands for loader, the shuttle shift made it convenient to use in the constant back and forth movement of a loader tractor. If you were to describe your tractor to use thoroughly and left out the serial numbers it would be pretty easy to peg it as a UTIL. Hope this helps.

Jim

Thanks, this really helped. When I looked up all the models of MM"s, there was a 335 and 445 utilty listed but there wasn"t any model util. Do you know where I can get an air cleaner top for this tractor? It runs good, but that is the only thing missing from it. Thanks again for your help with this, Dale.
