I am kind of new to MM collecting. I have two ZAU"s and an R. I recently ran across a 49 ZAE with a good serial tag. It is not running but free, and the tires are gone but otherwise complete. It also has a complete 3 point hitch and lift assembly. The only thing is that it has a single front wheel like a ZAN. It would have never come from the factory that way would it? And how much should this tractor be worth in this condition? Thanks.

The ZAE and ZAN shared the same front casting so it wasn't too difficult to swap the ZAE front end out for the ZAN. The steering sector gears were different between them also. If the serial number is a true ZAE then it came from the factory with the extendable wide front and was probably swapped by a dealer or previous owner. There were far fewer ZAN (770) than ZAE (1,423) made but compared to ZAU (17,671) and ZAS (2,760) both were made in limited numbers.

The 3pt is probably an aftermarket setup. It's been debated whether or not Moline ever made a 3pt for the UB/ZB series but the ZA series operator platform did not lend itself well to a 3pt setup. Does it happen to have a high operator platform conversion similar to a ZB?

The operators platform and seat seem to be normal like my ZAU. The only difference is that it has the deluxe seat as opposed to the pan, but no suspension like my ZAU, just a piece of steel that it is attached to. I wouldn"t swear my life on it, but if it is an aftermarket 3 pt, they did a good job because everything seems to be just perfectly fit and attached to the lift cylinder assembly like you would think it was factory. Like I said, I"m new at this though. Thanks.
