R clutches

Am working on a 47 RTI with a suspect flywheel. Just pulled a flywheel out of a 49 RTU. The 47 has the "new" style clutch with a separate throwout bearing. The 49's clutch has the "old" style with the pressure plate and throwout bearing attached. The bolt patterns for the flywheels and pressure plates are different so can't switch the one flywheel with the other pressure plate. Anyone know if the clutch/flywheel assembly is interchangable?

Does the rti have a foot clutch? the difference in the throw out bearing is usually because of the hand clutch on the universals. the hand cluthes used the yoke type bearing that was all one piece. If your pressure plate is a finger type and not an overcenter, it might interchange with a 445 or something.

I would like to know if a 445 flywheel would interchange with an RTI. The one problem you will have is the clutch disk. The hub of the RTI is six splines and the 445 is thirteen. and the RTI has a 10 inch disk. All RTU are less, "I think" not sure. If you do need a new clutch disk you can get the facings from AGCO for a WC ALLIS-Chalmers. Keep us informed on this I have an RTI.

Am thinking about having a machinist drill the three additional holes on the good flywheel so the finger type clutch would fit on it. Think this would work?

Yes, you will have to use the flywheel from whichever tractor you are fixing so the clutch will bolt up. I don't think the other clutch will bolt up to the other flywheel.

Mike,
Your RTI is a foot clutch tractor. Your donor RTU is a hand clutch. Unless you plan to convert your RTI to hand clutch (don't know why you would want to) then the donor clutch will not work in your RTI.
