Does anyone know the stats on an HD-800 6A Propane motor? Looking for how much horsepower they came out with from the factory. The motor I have, has 10A4228 heads. Bore and stroke? Thanks. Any info about these motors would be helpful.

whats the matter with slow and long stroke?
thats what made these such good engines.
I will put my HD800 up against anything with the same horse power. and as far as fuel usage my 504 will use no more fuel then the cummins in my 1955

OK, I'm going to split a hair or two here. Technically speaking the 800 motor is a couple of cubes short of 800. The spec sheets state that it is a 5-5/16" bore with a 6" stroke. That calculates out to 797.97 cubic-inch but 800 sounds better when you are marcketing an engine.

Look at the specs again. It is 5.319 dia bore x 6.000 stroke. That makes it 800 cid.

I have two HD 800A-6A Specification Bulletins from MM; P-123 (25) and 1049 (10-63). Both bulletins list the bore as 5-5/16.

MM might have changed it on later bulletins to match the advertised displacement. Do not know was not at the meeting.

I have always been told they listed the piston as 5.312 and the bore 5.319. So they were 5 5/16 plus the clearance. Actuall bore size is where you would get measure cid.

As stated in first posting, "splitting hairs". Calculated based on the spec data sheets, it comes up a couple of cubes short. It is not a big deal to me but it seems to have hit a soft spot for others. When you are approaching 800 cubes, a cube or two realy do not change much.

"Continuous duty" is 80% of maxiumn horsepower. A good running stock HD800 will put out 250hp on a dyno.

A stock one with 28's barely does 200 tweaked. One with 29's would be a little higher. If you have a M&W dyno you will get about 15% higher reading so one with 29's on a M&W might show 250hp.

So tell what it will "dyno" on propane fuel then MR Expert! That's what he asked! I stated the chart for natural gas for stationary engine use what the engines were built for and I'm sure it's going to be less than for propane or some monkey modified puller engine. Truth is the 800HD is a OLD motor a dinosaur now days too slow, long stroke, too fuel ineffecient to compete and too expensive to repair to make it alongside any engine today. That's the reasons why you pullers can buy them cheap yet have no respect for the last guy that maybe spent $10K plus overhauling that engine to make it run right 24/7 - 365 on "continuous duty"!

All the respect in the world for those folks, just there use needs and mine are very different. Don't complain too much about the pullers as they have saved several items from sure melt down.
