Hi Folks: Started checking out my 1949 Z this morning and found a wooden panel covering the pully assembly hole. Previous owner says that the pully ran continuously so he took it off. I have the assembly but is missing the pully. I would like to put it back on. Any suggestions? He had Champion J8C plugs in. What are the best plugs for the old girl? I bet I will plenty of suggestions on that one. It has hydrolics but I doubt the prvious owner used it. The rod or what ever is missing. I have the owners manual but it did not cover hydrolics. What manual do I need and any ideas on how to approach this none use hydrolic pump? Thanks for your time and efforts regarding my problems. I suppose I will be back again. Never owned a MM before. Drew s/w WI.

J8C is the correct plug.

MM manual S-142 for Uni-Matic hydraulic system covers installation, operation & maintenence. They are offered quite often on Ebay. RW

I will help you with what I can and will do the best I can hopefully someone will correct my mistakes without making too much fun of me. We are prepping several Z's for dads upcoming auction right now and I walked over and looked and 2 close by units have same plugs J8C. The hyd system is unique and not much good to you unless you have a MM cylinder to go with it. Having said that my UTU that we use daily I converted rather easily by adding an open center valve and taking the return line into the resivoir. Not original but now I can use any modern type cyl on it.You simply take the pressure side from the pump and plumb it into your valve and then turn the hyd on by engaging the lever that comes out of the reservoir. Belt pully watch e-bay I have seen several sell, we have some going as parts at the auction along with some hyd cyl. if you are close enough and can wait
