I wonder if someone could tell me if a piston with a casting #10A1900, which I believe came out of 283A-4 or a 283B-4 (not sure which) could be used in place of casting KE5351 piston, which came out of 283 KEF engine ?

I think the answer to your question is both yes and no.

I am thinking the 10A1900 pistons will have a full floating pin held in place by locks in grooves in the pin hole bosses in the pistons. I also think the KE5351 pistons will have a pin locked in place by a setscrew. If that is the case, the pin end of the rod that is made to work with the KE5351 pistons (The KEF engine rods) will be wider because all the pivot action at that point will be concentrated in the bushing in the rod because the pin is locked to the piston with the setscrew. To make the later piston work on the older rods it will be necessary to machine the pin end a bit narrower so it will go between the bosses in the 10A1900 piston.

This is all from memory, I do not recall the part numbers I was working with, but I had this done to make the later pistons fit in a 283A engine (1950 model) that had originally used the older, setscrew locked pistons.

If I am mistaken about this, someone with the parts interchange info will let us know.
