Things to consider on an M5

Hey everybody:

I am considering purchasing an M5 at auction. This particular one is on LP. I am not afraid of LP as I grew up on one and just recently restored a UTS on LP. What are things that I should watch out for on an M5? What should I watch for on the Ampli-Torq? Is there any way to tell what kind of shape it is in if I can't drive it?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

In mantenence I mean valve clearence mostly. Coolant level, waterpump condition, clean radiator inside and out. Tight fan blade so fan does not slip, ect. Most guys with the irrigation engines did not check valve clearence and would cause added exhaust heat in ports. Good luck.

THANK YOU! If I buy it, valve clearance will be one of the first things we check. Do you know if PS and 3pt were standard on these?

Watch out for cracked heads! 10A4210 heads crack very easy and that is whats on a M5 LP.

Hey Kansas Farmer - where are you at? I grew up in Rooks Co. and family farmed in Rooks and Osborne Co. Spent a LOT of time on a UTS LP. I live in Iowa now.

All M,M. heads had a nack for cracking in the exhaust ports. But they had a reason to crack, mostly poor maintenence. Take care of it and should have no problems.

Thanks guys. I'm going to show my ignorance. What maintenance would you be looking for? I will check coolant level and check for siigns of leaks. I will also request it be started and run long enough to heat up.

At the risk of generating some competition, this is an M5 at Polk's this Saturday. Anyone know anything about it?
