I have been approved for an FSA loan to move my 45 organic dairy cows from the farm that I work on to a rented farm to start farming on my own.I already own a 100hp loader tractor (wrong color for this board)but my grandpa had moline tractors.I am thinking about another tractor because you can't have just one. Would you be offended if you seen a 670 super diesel used regularly on a dairy farm and not all cleaned up and ready for show. Some where in yestardays tractors I saw that someone asked what people did for a living. Many responses but it struck me as odd that there was not one active farmer.

Thank you for the response. I see a lot of talk about how to repair or restore but not so much about using the tractors. I have another question. Since I have worked on dairy farms the last 10 years both places had larger 100+ hp tractors to get around in the winter. In the last week now we have had close to 30 in. of snow. How did a guy get his manure hauled in the winter with this much snow and a U moline was your biggest tractor? My grandpa is no longer around to ask.

Farms were smaller and it was piled outside until spring in some cases.

Jon, My old J was in the 1995 Antique Power calendar, did the paint and stuff in '89, used it so much it looks terrible now, still pulls a 3x14" plow, 220 cid ZB motor, LOTS of fun at the plow days, now use a '50 UTS/LP, paint is starting to look bad, pulls the same plow, only faster, 336+ engine, use it every day to plow, disc, whatever. These old tractors were built to be used, never could just leave it in the barn for the next show. I'm not a farmer, just do about 30 acres of hay, some corn, and some oats. John

I would never be offended to see an M670 out working the way it was intended. Many guys around here work in ag related jobs and farm on the side. Their equipment is not the newest and best, but they do what they can to keep the heritage alive. John Grandfield told me he used his Twin City J as his regular work tractor. Deere 4020 are used every day, why not a M670? That's Dad's main user. Mine is a Jet Star 2. Doug Lilly, my good dairy farmer friend uses two M670 diesels. Full speed ahead buddy.

I personally would rather see an old tractor well taken care of but maybe not a showpiece still working than one that has been cut up for tractor pulling.

But either way is better than seeing one on the scrap pile at the metal recycler.

I think it is great that an old tractor is still useful on the farm. My old UTU is used daily in the farming season. I restored my UTU a few years back and it sure looks good with that $150 a gallon paint. But like most equipment in needs to be maintained and kept inside out of the weather.

I would be impressed as long as you took care of it ! I am offended , or upset when people misuse equipment.... If a 670 does what you need go for it !

Would not offend me I use a G900 as MY primary tractor I got one of those FSA loans to start my Hog farm they are a good deal just lots of paperwork. The hog farm is my only income.
