did MM install engines other then there own in tractors ? I have told a MM670 had a perkins engine installed in it at the factory?

A Perkins 354 was installed in a M670 in 67 in the experimental department. This was an attempt to overcome vibration complaints on the M670 diesel. It was a smooth running tractor. I remember that the 6 cylinder Perkins took up a lttle less space than the 4 cylinder 336 MM engine. The tractor was sent out for field test in Minnesota in 67 or 68. The test coperator liked it but ultimately marketing decided to continue with MM engines. I think the cost was higher than the 336 also.The M670 Super had a lot fewer vibration complaints than the regular M670. The tractor came back to experimental and was later sold. I do not know if the Perkins engine was left in or if was replaced by a regular MM 336 before selling. MM sometimes sold experimental tractors.

My father was a MM dealer when this was suposed to have came about. This was an expermental unit.When the pres.of MM came out to see it he gave it a thumbs down. The tractor was taken back to the shop and the org. engine was reinstaled. I was told that it made a sweat runner. It was a 354 na. The problem that they were trying to solve was engine vibration,this combo was real smooth.

I know where there is a 5.9 cummins in a G1000 I will try to get a pic. It belongs to an Amish fella and it was a lot of work, pretty neat actually. But from the factory they were all MM 336 4 cylinder.

I don't believe MM would do anything like that at the factory, but I have heard numerous accounts of Perkins and Cummins engine in MM trctors. I believe there are some U302 with Cummins 4cyl and even some Ford 6cyl diesels in them. I wish I had some pictures.
