FTA Stuck Engine

I just purchased an FTA that has a stuck engine, not really sure how badly it's stuck though. We free'd up another 403ci out of a GTB with terpentine and "gently" applied pressure on the ring gear with a pry bar (she free'd up in 7 days)

Well, the FTA doesn't have a ring gear being a crank start. Any ideas on where to find a little bit of leverage on this engine? Front of the motor perhaps, or avoid the practice altogether?

Thanks!

Pull the spark plugs & look in the cylinder walls. Are they clean? Then pull the inspection holes in the block & look at the bottom of the pistons. Are they clean or rusty at the point where they meet the cylinder wall? You can sometimes break them loose if there is no/little rust present. If you see flake rust in the top of the bore & the piston/cylinder are rusted together at the bottom, you can soak it forever to no avail. That is usually the way I find them!

LOTS OF PENETRATING OIL, OR DIESEL WORK GOOD, I HAVE BROKE SO OTHER COLORED TRACTORS LOOSE, BY PULLING THEM AND POPPING THE CLUTCH, IT BREAKS THINGS THOUGH, AND IF YOU VALUE ORIGINAL PARTS I WOULDN'T GO PRYING ON THE FLYWHEEL, YOU COULD EASILY BREAK SOMTHING AND THEN YOU WOULD HAVE TROUBLE.

If your tractor is stuck you risk the chance of breaking something. Popping the clutch, prying on the flywheel and/or ringgear are all good ways. Even if you take the engine apart you risk the chance of breaking something.

I loosened mine by taking the cast iron shield that mounts to the frame and bellhousing area. I then just wedged a prybar between the frame and flywheel and pryed the flywheel up. I did this on both sides until I got the engine to move. Rocking the engine from each side I eventually got the engine to rotate backwards. I rotated it in that direction one revolution hoping to knock out the rust or whatever was holding it tight. I could then turn it over with the crank.

I have heard if you jack up one rear wheel and put the transmission in gear (the higher gear the better) then try to turn the tire works. I cannot speak from experience, but I did use Kroil and the flywheel teeth to loosen up a 445.
