I have a small farm and have found M5 moline to use around the farm but it runs on LP gas and have no way to fill the big tank other than haul the tractor to the station . So can I find a small tank like one form a forklift or one like I use on a grill but the ones I have seen do not have both Vapor and liquid . Will the tractor crank and run on Liquid all the time ? Thanks Tommy

If you run on vapor in cool weather your pressure can go down enough that the engine wont get enough fuel to run properly.

Tom, if it's trouble to get the local dealer to come to your house and fill your tank, then I would go the hi-lo tank route. Get a hose from the dealer to do the job and have a couple of tanks around so you can just switch them fulls for empties. Don't worry about the liquid vs. vapor thing unless you're routinely going to run the machine in extreme cold.

If you plumb another tank use proper hose or line rated for LPG and not just any old hose because it's not safe.

Hey Friends I had a propane GB that I always filled just from the pressure of a larger tank (500 gal.)just bleed the tank on the tractor and it would fill.
Or hook it up and leave it over night without bleeding and it would fill, just be there in the morning before the sun warmed the tank to turn it off or the pop off valve would be doing its thing. Never did understand when to run on vapor or liquid, didn"t seem to make any difference.

Probably because the converter wasn't working right or water lines to vaporize liquid LPG in converter were plugged up not letting warm water thru or were maybe also plumbed wrong? Suppose to be able to run the rest of tank fuel down and run longer on a tank of fuel by going to liquid when engine warms up. Just pasted this in from a earlier reply:...
You only start it on vapor. Always open or close the valves slowly so the excess flow disc on valve inside tank doesn't try to stick shut cutting off flow. If it won't start well on vapor then check for restrictions in fuel lines or other problems. You only run on liquid after the engine has warmed up well and the vaporizer/regulator will vaporize the liquid LP from the warm engine water running through a coil in it. If the vaporizer coils or hoses are plugged it won't warm well to run on liquid either. Can usually run 30 minutes or more on vapor till it warms good and then open liquid valve and shut vapor. You can switch back to vapor before shutting it off and cooling down and running on vapor a hour or so before shutting down can reduce pressure in the tank making it easier to fill later also.

I use a 20#r all the time, just get an appropriate length hydraulic hose, 1/4" hose, get the correct ends to connect to the tank and the INLET of the LP filter, that's a 3/8" tubing flare, nothing special. Disconnect the tank line and connect the 20# line. I keep one of these for an emergency if I run out in the field. We ran a Stugart for a long time on a 20#r in a parade. Just keep it upright, "vapor", ALWAYS start on vapor and shut off on vapor, the liquid will "freeze" the regulator if allowed to run before the engine and the coolant running thru the regulator are at running temp. Let me know if you'd like more help. John

If you have a larger tank on your place you can get a valve put in with a wet line so you can fill it fuller with liquid LP. You just run it on vapor unless engine is warmed and start on "vapor" not liquid as someone else said. Yes you could run it off a fork lift type tank and have a extra or two doing that way but have to find a place to mount it and extra hose.

If you have a large LP tank on your farm you can get an adapter hose to bleed fill the tractor with. You will not be able to completely fill the tractor tank this way, but if you don't work far from the tank it is simple enough to fill it a little more often. Some LP places will sell the pumps and you can get a complete fill that way. There is a way of putting a valve and Tee fitting into the lines and running the tractor on a BBQ tank. I don't remember how this is done exactly. I don't think it will work very will if you are trying to work the tractor though as the BBQ tank won't hold enough for serious work.

Also it seems to me that the tractor should be started on vapor and switched to liquid as it warms up. If you live in a warm climate I suppose you could run it strictly on liquid, but I don't know.

Good Luck

Joe

MY propane man said he can put a liguid line in any of my farm tanks for about $200 and I could fill a propane tractor out of that or he could fill it off of his delivery truck.

WE HAVEALWAYS CRANKED OURS ON LIQIUD AND RAN IT ON VAPOR, LOOK AROUND AT A LOCAL SALVAGE YARD AND SEE IF YOU CAN FIND A PICKUP LP TANK, THEN CHECK AROUND AND SEE ABOUT GETTING A HOSE TO FILL THE TANK, THATS WHAT I DID TO HAUL MINE AROUND TO SHOWS.
