Can anyone tell me what models or years did the Z come with the red grills or when they switched to the louvered yellow ones. I would like to find a R to restore, but will also accept a Z if it has the "red face" and do not know what models this applies to. thanks all

M-M introduced its Model ZT in 1936, beginning with serial number 560001. 1937 production began at serial number 560038. All of the Model ZT type tractors had the red grilles. They were the only Zs with red grilles.

The ZT was replaced by the ZA in 1949. All ZAs (1949 to 1953) had a flat bar grille which was painted Prairie Gold, as did the ZBs (1953 to 1955) which replaced the ZA.

I hope this helps. Take care, have a good one, and Happy New Year!

Respectfully,

Lindsey, the only red nose Z's were ZT's built from 1937 to 1948. The ZA came out in 1949. It introduced the flat bar grille to the Z series. Hope this is what you were looking for.

There were different years for the red mesh grills for the "R" "Z" and "U".

"R" red mesh grill (1939-1950's)
"Z" red mesh grill (1937-1948)
"U" red mesh grill (1938-1941)

Look back in the archives under red grilles. I asked the same question several weeks ago and got a very detailed answer. It is a little confusing and there is not a pattern to it.

I think the Z had red grills up to the ZA which came out in 49.
