utu overheating

recently overhauled a utu straight block and I cant get water to circulate and it is getting hot on the temp gauge, top hose is very hot and bottum hose is cold I did notice the waterpump is leaking anyone what is up? I dont think it has a thermostat in it to be sticking closed, could waterpump fan not be turning.

If you had the Radiator off you might look for a mouse nest in the top or bottom of it.

Sounds like your impeller on the water pump is not turning. Not familiar with the old single head engines, but later water pumps had the impeller threaded on (left hand threads) with a pin through the impeller and shaft. Your pin is probably broken and the threads stripped. Maybe someone on this board can give accurate details or you can call Welters with your serial number and get the parts for a rebuild.

Well the first place I would look since you mention the LEAK is the water pump...it has been awhile since I did one but parts are still around and they are not all that hard to work on
