Rebuilding M670 - Need Ideas

I haven't been around MM's enough to know what should/can be done to the blocks, pistons, and heads when rebuilding them. It's going to need new pistons, the back piston has a bit of the top ring land tore up, and maybe one other piston too. I haven't pulled the pistons yet, not sure if it's been bored once before. Is their different sized overbore kits out there? I haven't looked the heads over yet, but am curious what could be done to them. They are 4230 heads. Can they be milled some safely, and how far? Do they like any unshrouding or certain valves or seat angles? I can tell they've been off before, so maybe they aren't original, or maybe some work has been done. Would like to try to pull with this tractor after a few issues are taken care of, as we got a replacement tractor with a cab to use for farming. But, I would like a good starting tractor that can be ran on 87-89 octane fuel.

Any ideas out there?

Clean the top of the piston and see if theirs a number stamped in it.It will tell if it has a over sized piston,like 30 or 60 over standard bore.I did a over haul on a neighbors MM and was able to get new 60 over pistons had the blocks bored to fit.The 4230 heads are 6.8 to 1 comp. ratio on a 336 engine.You could have them milled some to clean them up.I'm not the person to ask about port and polishig but I know they do it for tractor pullers all the time.Seems like the pullers like useing the square port heads for more flow.Call Motec engineering for that information 765 963 6628

Looks like the engine's been bored .030 before, but I question if it's going to need it again. If I remember right, the initials on the inside of the piston said GEP, forgot the number on the inside. Would that be an aftermarket brand?

We'd need the whole part number to know for sure but generally speaking original MM pistons will have a part number that starts with 10A, 10B, 11A, 11B or something like that cast in the bottom side.

Yeah, it's definately an aftermarket piston. I'll have to get in touch with a machine shop and see what they think I need to do with the blocks, then go from there.

Got the blocks off this afternoon. Looks like the engine was rebuilt in '77-78. I'll have to take a peek at the pistons to find a number, and measure them.
