I was changing the filter on my 403 today and found some long strings coming from the filter around the center shaft on the bottom. I removed the base and found several lodged in one of the holes enterning the motor. Anyone else had this problem. I think I bought the filter from Welters and it was labeled made in usa.

From memory the NAPA filter is number 1111. I've had no problems with them.

Although I have not witnessed that problem, the filter is made up of what we used to call something like 'yarn waste' in textiles. Basically its a wad of (usually cotton) thread that the oil passes through. Apparrently some threads managed to work its way out of the canister in your case.

There were even some elements offered that could be disassembled and you only had to replace the yarn.

Mom likes to tell about the neighbor who used toilet paper for a filter in his IH.

Don,t laugh to much about the toilet paper oil filters. I've got a friend that as a H and M farmall with these filters. Back in the 70's saw a Nash Rambler with one. I think these were a generic, add on filter.

A company called Frantz still makes them. They advertise on Ebay among others.
