GBD Bosch pump

I have a bosch pump at the repair shop. It is going to cost a bunch to fix. He said that it is an 8mm pump and he could come up with one off of an Oliver, but it will be a 7mm pump. He said that it will have a hair less power. I would like to know what is he measuring to know if it is a 8 or 7mm ? Is there anything in the model number that tells you this? Can you tell what it is without taking it apart?

Gday Ken,
i think your repair man is refering to the plunger size, As far as i know, your pump will be a PBA American Bosch pump, and im not sure how to tell plunger sizes
