Hi I just bought a oliver 830 pull chopper and the corn head is stamped that MM made it in Hopkins.I thought that oliver made the base unit and bought the heads from Fox,Oliver called the sp unit 840 and that had a 478 hercules engine.Did MM offer a pull type and sp also I have never seen one but because this head has the MM id plate I guessing MM offered them for sale, this chopper I think was made in 1970 or newer because it has the White name above the oliver. Also Oliver used the 478 hercules engine in tractor model 2050 and a turbo in 2150 which were made in 1968 so the sp chopper could date from then

Good find!! These are not easy pieces to find and it is always nice to hear of one being saved. Would like to find one myself someday. Compared to the ubiquitous Oliver plows, disks, corn pickers, etc. that we see all the time, many of the haytools, especially the choppers/blowers, are rare. I didn't realize they could be purchased as MM/Cockshutt either.

MM had a CG forage blower in 1953, 76000001-76000100, 1954, 58600101-58600400, made by Kools for MM. This is from Lloyd McCrays' serial # book.

I sold some Forage equipment in the 1950's. They had pull type as well as uni equipment. They had one row pull type as well as one row and pickup type head for the uni-equipment. I think MM bought a company called Fox that was not very succcessful in forage equipment. Another Fox company was very successfull in forage equipment. After lots of greif we changed to Gehl.

Tom, I thought someone else would answer your question, but I guess not.The choppers were built in the late 60's and 1970. They were sold by Oliver (green) and Cockshutt (red) as the 830 pull type and the 840 self propelled. Moline sold the same choppers, but called the pull type 1830 and the self propelled the model 1840. They were painted yellow. All the heads were painted white, for all three brands.

Oliver and Cockshutt also had a forage blower that was called the model 820. I have never see any advertising on a Moline forage blower sold at that time. That does't mean that there wasn't a model 1820 forage blower.

Hope this answers your question.

Yes, that is where they were built.
